Welcome to the survivors project
The Ministry of Justice has funded a team of disabled and non-disabled researchers to talk to D/deaf and disabled adult victims and survivors of rape and sexual violence in England and Wales about their support needs.
Our final report to the Ministry of Justice was published in January 2023. You can access the final report here, on the Ministry of Justice website. This includes several reports, relating to various strands of this suite of research projects. Below we include direct links to the three versions of our report, which is entitled "Formal support needs of disabled adult victim-survivors of sexual violence":
Here are two further publications from this research:
Hollomotz, A. (2026). Why so many victims don’t realise they have been raped until later. The Conversation.
Hollomotz, A. (2024). “I just felt that I was somebody who was there to be abused.” - A sociological analysis of structural causes for delayed naming of sexual violence at the intersection of disability and gender. Mental Capacity Law, Sexual Relationships, and Intimacy. B. Clough and L. Pritchard-Jones. Bristol, Bristol University Press: 145-176.
Please contact us if you would like a copy of the book chapter above. We are working on further academic publications and we will post details about these here once they become available.
